It’s a grey start to the week although we can expect to enjoy a good sunny day before rain, mist and fog hits later this week.

Met Eireann say some good sunny spells will develop on Monday morning with highs of between 16 and 19C.

But it will get quite cool this evening with temperatures dropping as low as 4C with some mist patches developing.

And as the week draws in it’s looking like there will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle although there will still be a good deal of dry weather.

Tuesday will start off dry with highs of 17 to 19C with cloud then increasing in the evening.

Forecasters say we can then expect a damp night with mist and fog patches developing and the next few days will be much the same before things pick up again as next weekend approaches.

Here’s what the national forecast predicts for the days ahead:

Wednesday: “A rather dull and cloudy start to the day, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. A clearance to drier conditions will develop from the northwest through the day with some afternoon and evening sunny spells for the western half of the country. Staying cloudier further east with some patchy drizzle continuing. Highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees generally with light to moderate west to northwest breezes.”

Thursday: A mainly cloudy day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle slowly sinking further south, becoming patchier as it does so. A clearance to showers will develop in the northwest during the afternoon. Highest temperatures ranging from 15 or 16 degrees in the northwest to 19 or 20 degrees in the south in moderate, occasionally fresh, westerly breezes.

Friday : “A cool and cloudy day but dry for most with just a few well scattered light showers. Highest temperatures of just 13 to 16 degrees generally in a moderate to fresh northerly wind.”

Early indications for the weekend suggest a good deal of dry weather with plenty of sunshine but there is still a chance of some rain at times.
