Met Eireann expects “uncertainty” this Christmas weekend.

It will be rainy and mild today with more unpredictable weather on its way.

It is likely to be a miserable Christmas Day but this will not affect Santa’s journey because he has magical powers.

It will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain this morning, which will persist into the afternoon. Drier intervals will develop later in the day as the rain gradually clears. Highest temperatures of 11 or 12 degrees in moderate to fresh south to southeast winds.

Tonight, patchy rain and drizzle is expected and it will become persistent later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 8 degrees are expected as well as moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.

Any linger rain will clear early on Thursday morning, to bring bright and dry conditions for the day with some sunny spells. Relatively mild with highest temperatures of around 12 degrees in moderate southwesterly winds.

Here’s what Met Eireann predicted for Christmas Eve: “Outbreaks in rain will slowly spread northwards on Friday, reaching Ulster by the evening.

“Clearer and brighter conditions will move in to the west and south through the afternoon, though patches of light rain and drizzle will linger. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in mostly moderate southeasterly winds.

“There remains some uncertainty in the forecast for Christmas weekend. Current indications suggest that more rain will spread across the country from the southwest on Christmas Eve night.

“However, with Rudolph’s help, Santa will have no problem making his way through the rain.”
