Ireland is set to bask in two weeks of above average temperatures, with glorious sunny conditions expected today with highs of 20C.

Met Eireann is forecasting that a hot May is just around the corner, and that a mild week with unsettled weather at times will be followed by 14 days where forecasters are predicting blissful conditions around the country.

From Monday, May 16, Met Eireann say: “High pressure looks sets to dominate with more settled conditions expected.

“This will cause rainfall amounts to be below average, and temperatures will be higher than normal for mid-May, winds will be light to moderate with variable cloud cover.”

This is set to be followed by another lovely week, the forecaster added: “Looking ahead to week 3, similar conditions can be expected with a signal for rainfall amounts to remain below average, and temperature to remain slightly above normal for late May.”

Today will be dry with sunny spells, turning hazy at times.

Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, warmest away from the coast, with a light to moderate southerly breeze.

Sunday night

It will become cloudier tonight and there is a chance of isolated light rain or drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 10 or 11 degrees in a moderate southerly wind.

However, Monday is set to be much wetter.

“Some of the showers will be heavy, particularly in the northwest later. It will be breezy with a moderate to fresh southerly wind, occasionally strong. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.”

Clear spells and scattered showers, with any rain clearing from the southeast early in the night. Southwesterly winds will be mostly light to moderate but will become fresh at times in the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be breezy with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. During the evening, the showers will become isolated, and cloud will increase across the northwest.
