Update (23/08/22) – JB

In a post shared this week, the well-known and trusted Ming-Chi Kuo said that the new MacBook Pro models should enter the mass production phase in the fourth quarter this year.

Furthermore, the new Apple M2 Pro chipset should be produced by TSMC in the 5nm process instead of the previously speculated 3nm.

For Kuo, this should happen because TSMC itself states in its financial report that 3nm chips should only start to generate revenue in the first half of 2023.

Thus, everything indicates that only Apple chips in 2023 will be assembled at 3 nm. For now, Apple and TSMC do not comment on the matter in an official way.

Therefore, we emphasize that everything must remain in the field of rumors.

MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips could arrive in Q4

After having the M2 chip generation presented during WWDC 2022, Apple has already made official new 13-inch MacBook Air and Pro models with the latest Apple Silicon. However, new information shows that 14-inch and 16-inch Pro models will launch with the M2 Pro and M2 Max later this year.

According to Mark Gurman, for the Bloomberg, “Apple” has an internal schedule considered “aggressive” for its most powerful chips. Therefore, the expectation is that the launches will occur in the autumn period of the Northern Hemisphere, which comprises the fourth quarter of the year.

If there is any delay, the deadline could be extended to, at most, the beginning of 2023. In any case, it would not be the first time that Gurman has signaled for releases of this type. He already said in June that a MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and a Mac Mini would be on the Cupertino giant’s radar.

If Apple actually launches in the period predicted by the expert, the life cycle of the predecessors, M1 Pro and M1 Max, would be reduced to just one year – since they were launched in the same period of fall in the United States in 2021. The trend is that the useful life would last between one and a half and two years.

In any case, enthusiasts can expect evolutions designed more for the performance itself than for the design, which will likely remain the same as the current generation.
