It is not new that the virtual world has raised a number of concerns in people since the last few years. Now, a survey carried out by Ipsos and commissioned by Western Digital translates this fear into numbers, to celebrate World Backup Day in 2023, celebrated every March 31st.
According to the survey, about seven out of ten people (69%) fear losing digital files more than physical objects. The results of trends of 2023 also showed that 86% of respondents know what a backup is. Of the 88% who actually do, 93% have some external device or online storage for it.
When we talk about the storage solution used, the free online or cloud format is the main one, with 53% preference. Next, pen drives and memory cards appear. Even so, the study found that 58% of people still prefer to back up to physical devices, or combine them with cloud services.
Among the other data, eight out of ten respondents perform backup frequently, either daily or monthly. On the other hand, those who do not dispense with the practice because they find it difficult (32%), because they forget (24%) or do not consider it necessary.
Those who combine online and physical saves understand that the advantage lies in the certainty of being able to access their files when they need to (61%), in the possibility of better managing the privacy of documents (49%) or in less exposure to security breaches (37%) .
Scenario in Europe
Within these numbers, Europe is the country surveyed where the highest percentage of people are who know what a backup is (89%), where they are most performed (90%) and where the frequency is higher (average of 9. 2 times a month), including the highest rate of daily backups (26%).
Regarding concerns about losses, the scenario indicated something similar to that seen in other places. 66% of Europeians are also more afraid of losing their digital files than physical objects (34%).
