LG, also stop modding: at the end of the year the bootloader unlocking service closes
LG has abandoned the mobile sector for some time now, and it is inevitable that, slowly but surely, all the ancillary services that gravitate around this world are about to disappear. One of the latest news in this sense concerns the closure of the LG Mobile Developer site, particularly useful for geeks and fans of modding for the bootloader unlock service, the first fundamental step to enter the world of custom ROM, recovery and advanced customization software. The date set for the termination of the service coincides one minute with the end of 2021.
It is not just a matter of personalizing your device for the sheer sake of doing it (which in our view, which remains anchored to the idea that “the product is mine and I do whatever I want with it”, is still a perfectly valid and respectable reason). Time has shown that modding can go where the manufacturer’s official support fails, and continue to provide updated versions of Android beyond the official timelines. Greater longevity tends to guarantee better performance and greater safety.
The good news, however somewhat secondary, is that LG has confirmed that will delete all personal data collected as part of the bootloader unlocking initiative (but more generally the whole site). In short, for those who own an LG smartphone and plan to keep it running for a while, perhaps for friends / relatives with little technology or alternative purposes, the advice is to proceed with the unlocking now, before it’s too late.
For the sake of completeness, we would like to remind you that a unofficial unlocking system, but it is rather complicated and requires you to interfere with a startup mode, that of Emergency Download of Snapdragon chips, which is the lowest known: to say, if something goes wrong at this level, the chances of restoring normal operation of the device are very, very low .
