Heavy rain in Swords has caused huge flooding outside a pub on Bridge Street this evening.

The video shows an outdoor dining area surrounded by water and a man can be seen clinging onto a gate to avoid falling into the deep floods.

Facebook users took to the platform to voice their concerns, one said: “Typical Irish weather from one extreme to the other.”

Another said: “If you’re not vaccinated, you have to wear snorkelling gear to have a pint.”

A third posted: “You would feel bad for them after not being allowed open with all the lockdowns then only allowed outdoor dining now a flood.”

Someone else said: “Heart breaking, only opened , hopefully not too much damage.”

Met Eireann have issued an advisory for heavy thundery showers for the whole of Ireland for the next few days as an ominous change hits the country.

A cold front spread across Ireland yesterday bringing heavy and possibly thundery showers which lead to hazardous driving conditions and spot flooding.

The areas especially at risk are Leinster with thunderstorms becoming widespread again during Wednesday before a strange weekend.

The forecaster said: “Early indications suggest the weekend will be fresh and bright with a northwesterly air-flow dominating bringing a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers.

“Temperatures close to or slightly below the seasonal average.”
