The iPhone 14 Pro is one of the most talked about launches of the year — and that’s not entirely positive. After a series of complaints about slow opening of the camera app and autonomy problems with iOS 16, some users started to report that their çphones are restarting while charging the battery.
The bug appears to be occurring in different scenarios for over a week now, whether it’s when recharging wired using an original Apple accessory, Anker, or through MagSafe. One user reported in a thread on Reddit that their iPhone 14 Pro Max is restarting every 20 minutesabout.
Apparently the problem is not related to a specific iOS version. Complaints come from users who are running iOS 16.0.1, 16.0.2 and even the iOS 16.1 beta distribution. The only common factors are the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
“My iPhone 14 Pro Max with iOS 16.0.1 restarts every 10–20 minutes while charging,” states one of the complainers on Reddit. “I’ve also noticed that when the phone restarts, every message or call I get will show an unsaved number, even if it’s in my contacts.”
According to Apple support, the guidelines for solving the problem include restoring the device using recovery mode, disabling the “Optimized Charging” function and, for some reason and if applicable, uninstalling the Eufy app. None of the options fixed the bug, according to the community.
The same user who contacted the manufacturer’s support service discovered that there is a kind of pattern: the phone only restarts when it is in idle mode (with the screen off) and the battery is charging between 90% and 95%.
As reported, the only apparent solution is disable background refresh. For this you need to follow the path: Settings > General > Background updates. A user claims that his smartphone has not restarted on its own for two days.
Apple’s new line of cell phones has not yet arrived in Europe, but is already available for pre-sale with prices starting at R$7,599 for the iPhone 14. The 128 GB iPhone 14 Pro will sell for R$9,499, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max will start at R$10,499.
