The adventure of the iPhone 14 did not start off on the right foot. Leaving aside the countless production problems that have afflicted and afflict i melafonini (which is why, during the Christmas period, i.e. the one in which the biggest numbers of the year are made, you don’t find any), it has been years since iPhones have suffered from so many software glitches. Yet for some time the problems seemed to have disappeared thanks to iOS 16.1 first and then iOS 16.2.
Instead we are here again to tell the last bore that some customers have dealt with. The thread on Reddit dates back to about a week ago in which a user tells of having immediately noticed, as soon as he received his iPhone 14 Pro Max, of some ominous horizontal lines that flashed when the display “woke up”. “It happens randomly, not every time I wake up the screen”tells.
Sometimes there is only one line, sometimes there are more. I took it to Apple, they ran diagnostics and found nothing out of the ordinary. The technician told me that it is not a hardware problem but a software one. He advised me to reset the iPhone and start from scratch so it would be gone. I proceeded, but nothing changed. I upgraded to iOS 16.2 and nothing changed.
Lots of comments, almost all from users who disagree with Apple’s diagnosis: it’s a hardware problem, they write to him. After a few days, other reports from other users were added to the first, all with iPhone 14 Pro Max and all with the same problem, small but “unacceptable”, as someone writes, after throwing a lot of money for the best iPhone ever. From the testimonials a couple of things emerge:
- that the cause should not be iOS 16.2 (there are reports also with iOS 16.1.2)
- that the defect would occur on iPhones delivered in December.
The latter it is not a negligible aspect, could indicate that some component has not come off the line perfect and that some customers are now paying the consequences. It is true that the delivery/purchase does not say anything about the production date of the unit, but the vicissitudes of the last period in China lead us to think that the iPhone 14 assembled before the stop at the plant where the most are produced in the world are were sold now several weeks ago, and those that are arriving now have been assembled recently, the resumption of activities.
Whoever created the Reddit thread returned to Apple specialists to be told exactly the same theory as the first time. Although it continues to argue that the cause is not hardware, it seems that Apple is moving to understand more, also because the reports are starting to become many and are also crowding the official community. It seems that Apple technicians are investigating one or more drivers. However, it is important to get out of it as soon as possible – and we are addressing anyone who might have the same problem – notify Apple support, also on Twitter (here): the more reports they collect, the better the chances of identifying the cause.
