Yesterday, a report gave some indications about integrating the multitasking mode for the iPad in the iOS 16 operating system. This means that, if it is true, now this device would include the facility to form application windows that take the size desired by the user, instead of having a limit and specific place as before.

This practicality has been around for some time among the demands of multiple users who want improvements for the iPad. Many of these are that the company favors more the operating system of the device.

Context

One of the most requested issues during 2018 was an iOS update for iPad. Since it was notable that the company at that time handled the iPad as a kind of Mac, which was not required. A version of iOS was always needed to adapt all the capabilities of iPad to be a better device or as some users requested: padOS.

Things like unnecessary space between screens, which for smaller devices like the iPhone is really fine, but for larger screens it’s pretty empty. Although they are not requirements that require a total change of operating system, being only a correct adaptation for iPad.

Some of the requests that would better adapt the iPad system would be at least these: the facility of windows that can be easily adapted in size to what is required by the useras well as better trackpad support.

As the years passed and advances in this device increased, the company decided to launch iPadOS. A system with better trackpad support, as well as other pretty noticeable improvements from the home screen. Although there are still improvements in other applications such as Quick Note, for example.

On this design, the iPad is often quite lacking in window enhancements. So that multitasking, since last year, has been an option that has been proposed by Internet users and that would improve the experience.

Some of the requested improvements are:

  • A greater number of apps visible on the screen.
  • Have a number greater than two of applications that can be had adjacently.
  • To be able to combine the open and visible applications vertically or horizontally.
  • Overlapping applications.

Although these ideas have been proposed on several occasions, it cannot be trusted that one day they will become reality. Nevertheless, the report on the 26th could indicate a small possibility that the iPad has multitasking mode.

An iPad with Multitasking?

At the moment only relatively little information is available. Steve Troughton-Smith via Twitter mentioned at the time that thanks to some GitHub sourcesmultitasking could be real. Such a mode could allow the user to manipulate the size and position of the windows as required. GitHub information from Webkit indicates that the operating system could now integrate a new way to activate multitasking mode

Updates by GitHubin which an engineer from the Cupertino company comments that these changes are true, signaling the multitasking mode update. Webkit in that publication commented on some suggestions to help the iPad operating system, integrating this long-awaited mode.

Although this interaction by the engineer indicates many issues, it is quite complex to know where the company is really going with respect to this device. However, there is also the possibility that Webkit’s proposals are reliable, since it is a source that has proven it.

In case of integrating the interesting function, it would make the iPad much more profitable, really matching the experience and ease to what already happens with the Mac. On the other hand, this would not benefit the sales of that product at all. The company, for its part, is not afraid of this type of situation in which the product removes sales from another because of the integrated improvements.
