On September 29th and 30th, those responsible for security can get an impression of what they should be prepared for when it comes to security.

Around 40 IT security experts and security managers will talk about IT security strategies as part of the Internet Security Days on September 29th and 30th. The organizers of the conference taking place in Phantasialand near Brühl spoke to some in advance.

Cyber criminals never take a break, not a day goes by without reports of successful attacks or security incidents. “The omissions of medium-sized companies in terms of IT security are massive,” says Gökhan Kurtbay of CNXConsulting Partners. “The damage caused by blackmail Trojans is correspondingly high and continues to grow.” At the Internet Security Days he gives the lecture “Information security in industry – the next must-have?” He expects that information security will be an integral part of the corporate structure and that there will be corresponding legal requirements.

An expert on the fragile role of the human factor is Vivien Schiller from adesso. “Cyber technology is operated by people. And a technology can only be as secure as a person uses it safely,” she says in the run-up to the event. As an example, she formulates: “It can quickly happen that a system is secure , but a person writes the user name and password on a post-it or passes it on to supposed helpers (social engineers).” As a result, nobody can avoid dealing with an intensifying IT security situation.

It is not surprising that the topic of ransomware also plays an important role in the conference program. The lecture “County in a state of emergency and the consequences” by Sabine Griebsch, CDO in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, is an example.

The more complex a system is, the more vulnerable it is to security breaches. An example of this is the combination of cyber security and conventional property protection. Many companies leave gaping security gaps here and don’t suspect it, says Lukas Grunwald from DN-Systems. At the Internet Security Days he will give the lecture “When cyberspace meets the real world… of 66 bitcoins and a deadly recipe”. “An integral consideration of security and all risks, including a weak point analysis of the IP components, is necessary. For example, IP-based security cameras are also part of the IT system,” says Grunwald.

For the approximately 250 expected guests there are around 40 lectures, keynotes and panel discussions, which offer a representative overview of the current situation with regard to IT security issues.

At the evening event after the first day of the event, the participants get an extraordinary setting to continue discussions about current threats and security strategies. The so-called Internet Security Night takes place in the Deep in Africa area. Here, the Inverted Coaster Black Mamba, one of the most popular roller coasters in Phantasialand, is exclusively available to guests without long queues.

Further information on the lectures and the supporting program can be found on the website. The twelfth edition of the Internet Security Days is organized by eco, the Association of the Internet Industry, in cooperation with the voonze Academy.
