Until now, one of the hallmarks of Instagram compared to other social networks is the fact that the contents that are seen in the feed of each user have been published -as a general rule- by himself and are unique.

Collaborative Instagram posts would be displayed on both authors’ accounts

It is true that there are apps that allow you to repost content on Instagram, but it is not a common action on the platform. In fact, not even Instagram has its own option to allow content posted by others to be “retweeted”, as is the case on Twitter, Facebook or most social networks, but rather uses applications developed by third parties.

From the company itself it is empowered have each account publish their own content -and it is also something that most marketers recommend, especially when it comes to corporate accounts- but this could change in the not too distant future.

Instagram has begun to develop a test that allows several users to collaborate on the same publication. At the moment it is only a test -which may never be applied- but it shows a certain openness of the company in that sense.

The test has been communicated by the Product Manager of Instagram, Visal Shah, through his official Twitter account. Throughout a thread, it explains what this functionality that is being tested would look like and clarifies that it is unknown if it will be officially launched or not.

The mere fact that it is being tested is already interesting. According to Shah, the functionality will be called Collab, and what it allows is to have “co-authors” In both feed posts and reels, the TikTok-like videos that Instagram released last summer.

When a user uploads content, on the screen where you can include tags, you can tag another user as a “co-author” of that content. This will cause that, if you accept, both accounts appear as authors of the content in the publication, and that photograph or video will be shown to both the followers of one and the other author.

The publication will be shown in the accounts of both, and the two authors will have access to both the comments and the statistics of the publication (“likes”, interactions, etc.).
