Instagram says Reels muted download is actually a bug

What appeared to be an attempt by Instagram to trap users on the platform was actually nothing more than a bug. As users have reported over the last week, videos exported from the Reels edit screen were getting muted. So, for the complete video to be downloaded, with audio and all, it had to be published first.

In an official statement issued by Meta to the international portal The Verge, the company that owns Instagram explains that this behavior is actually a bug and that there is an intention to fix it as soon as possible.

“Due to a bug, the Reels download feature is not working as expected for iOS users and in some cases the audio is missing from downloads – we are working to fix the issue as soon as possible,” said Seine Kim , spokesperson for Meta , via email.

The adjustment should benefit creators who seek more editing possibilities through the tool, since it is more complete in features compared to that offered by TikTok.

After having survived major battles against other social networks, such as Snapchat, Instagram’s current big target is TikTok. The Meta network has even tried to imitate the competitor’s feed, but recognizes that the “novelty” needs improvement.
