Instagram launched the Reels section in order to adapt to the popular short video format, directly rivaling platforms such as TikTok and Kwai, pioneers in this segment. In recent months, Meta (formerly Facebook) has implemented several improvements to this feature, encouraging the sharing of videos with users in the community.
According to information from the TechCrunch portal, the developer is testing a new feature in the beta version of the social network that facilitates access to Reels shared with friends. The novelty facilitates the viewing of videos sent to other users, encouraging re-sharing.
Apparently, the company introduced this feature in the stable version of the social network by showing the ‘Last Actions’ tab at the top of the message section horizontally listing newly uploaded videos. At the bottom of the videos, there is an indication of the account with which the user has shared the Reel in recent days.
The space that gathers the sent Reels is very similar to the ‘Archived’ section that houses all the Stories published by the profile owner. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the existence of this new feature stating that “we are rolling out improvements to how you can search for and rediscover Reels that were previously shared in messages”.
For now, there are still no details on when the feature will arrive for everyone, so it remains to wait for more official information from the developer or speculation. Given Meta’s track record, the feature is expected to arrive globally in the coming weeks, but there’s no confirmation yet.
