After allowing Stories to last up to 60 seconds, Instagram is now expanding status availability to its followers through short notes. According to XDA Developers, several users are already receiving the news with version 254.0.0.19.109 of Instagram.
The option to add a status note is shown just below the search bar in the Directs tab with the name “Your note”. When you tap on it, you’ll see a field to type up to 60 characters and select which people you want to share the note with as your close friends or followers you also follow.
The novelty is very reminiscent of the concept of Twitter, which limits the amount of characters for posts with texts, with the difference that on Instagram they are all deleted after a certain time.
Status notes last 24 hours and work like Stories, that is, they don’t notify any of your followers or close friends when they’re posted, but can be replied to by those who see them.
Per TechCrunch, the status notes have been in testing since June of this year, so we expect them to be released to everyone widely in the coming weeks or months.
