Microsoft is officially introducing video filters to Microsoft Teams video calls, making it possible to remove unwanted distractions, and put in their place video effects ranging from animated frames to styles that allow you to change the tone of the video.

The launch comes after several months after being available in the testing phase, launched last January.

Improving appearance to others

Users will be able to apply the new filters before starting the meetings or even already having them started, as the case may be. In this regard, Microsoft Teams is launching video filters as apps that can be added to meeting experiences in Teams, starting initially with its own app called Custom Filters.

These statements by the company leave the doors open for the launch of filters developed by third parties to be admitted in the future, despite the fact that at the moment it has not mentioned this possibility, which will surely come over time along with the tools necessary.

For the desktop, except if you are a student

For now, video filters are coming to the video calling experience in Microsoft Teams on desktop, except for those under educational licenses, and will be available as long as organization admins have this capability enabled for them. its members, being active by default.

Having the possibility of making use of the video filter applications, it will be the users who will be able to choose the ones they wish to use, granting initial permission to access the transmissions.

In addition, they and not the administrators will be the ones who can install and uninstall video filters in their experiences, deactivating this possibility by uninstalling all the applications.

As always, Microsoft will be attentive to comments with the aim of introducing improvements as far as possible.

There is no doubt that, over time, it will also reach the experience of video meetings with Microsoft Teams on mobile devices, and it will open the door for third-party developers to also develop their video filters in the future, making it possible a greater number of possibilities, always counting on privacy protection mechanisms.
