Huawei today presented the Pocket 2, a new folding mobile phone that stands out for its photography and design.

The folding mobile market is still young, and has a lot of room for improvement; Therefore, each new device that hits the market has something special that differentiates it from the rest. In the case of the Huawei Pocket 2 presented today, that ‘special’ is the photography, since it relies more on it than any other similar foldable that we have seen.

Indeed, far from being dead, Huawei continues to cause a lot of war with new launches, at least in its native China. It remains to be seen if the new Pocket 2 will arrive in Spain, taking into account the limited number of launches that the brand has announced in the last year, but it would be a shame if it did not arrive, because it is one of the most interesting clamshell-type folding devices on the market. market.

To start, the Pocket 2 is the first foldable of its kind that has four rear cameras, something surprising considering the limited space available when we close the device. The great sacrifice to implement this set of cameras has been in the screen, which does not follow market trends and continues to occupy a small 1.15-inch circle to display notifications and access to functions.

In return, the Pocket 2’s four cameras should be the preferred option for the most photography-enthusiast users. The main sensor is 50 Mpx, with OIS and an f/1.6 aperture. It comes with a 12 Mpx wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, as well as a telephoto camera with 3x magnification and f/2.4 aperture.

The funny thing is that the fourth sensor is actually not a traditional camera, but a 2 Mpx ultraviolet ray sensor. Huawei has explained that this addition will be used in all types of functions that will go beyond photography; For example, it will be able to detect the intensity of ultraviolet rays, and suggest sun protection on the face if it considers it to be too high. Finally, on the main screen we will see a 10.7 Mpx front camera with f/2.2 aperture.

The design will be another important aspect of the Pocket 2, with Huawei betting on different textures and patterns. Models in black and purple they will have vegan skin, offering a ‘premium’ texture to the touch; while the white and gray models will have a glass cover, but with a marble effect like that of the Huawei P60 Pro that arrived in Spain. Despite being a foldable, the Pocket 2 has IPX8 water resistance.

When it comes to hardware, this Pocket 2 uses a Kirin 9000S processor designed by Huawei itself to avoid US sanctions; It is a chip manufactured in 7 nm also used in the rest of the company’s high-end models, accompanied by 12 GB of RAM. As for the main screen, it is a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED panel, with a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The 4,520 mAh battery supports charging up to 66 W and reverse charging of 7.5W.

In software, it should not be surprising that this mobile has HarmonyOS by default in China, which will probably change to MIUI if it arrives in Spain. It has been launched with a starting price of 7,499 yuan (975 euros).
