The Kodi multimedia platform is compatible with a wide variety of devices. You can also install it on an LG television as long as it is not a too old model.

If you have an LG TV that is no older than 2018, it probably runs webOS and is therefore compatible with Kodi. Installing Kodi is completely legal, so although you have to follow a series of steps, you don’t have to go too deep into the TV system or take any risks. The only important thing is that the TV uses the webOS operating system in version 4.0 or higher.

You must follow a list of 9 steps that, yes, must be read and followed carefully. But by following the instructions carefully, we will be able to install this multimedia center in a short time.

1. Register as a developer at LG

We have to create an account at LG. It’s as simple as that, they don’t ask or require any other test to approve it as a developer account as well. To do this, you must go to the login/register section on the LG website and enter your information. Don’t forget to write down the username and password used to log in later.

2. Download Developer Mode

Once the account is done, we go to our LG television and enter the application store. In this, we search and download the app called Developer Mode.

3. Log in to the app

Once the download is complete, we open the Developer Mode app from the main menu of the TV. Upon entering, the application will request a username and password, which will be the ones we have created on the LG website. After entering this data, a new window will open with a series of options. We click on the option called Dev Mode Status. A message will appear on the screen saying that the TV is going to restart. We click to accept and wait for the reboot to complete.

4. Activate Key Server

When the television starts up again, we will have to reopen the Developer Mode application, and check if Dev Mode Status is activated. If it is not, click to activate it. In addition, we also activate the Key Server option. When you activate Key Server, a Passphrase and an IP address will appear on the screen , which you will have to write down.

5. Install Dev Manager Desktop

For the next step we have to use a computer, either Windows or Mac. On the computer, we will install the Dev Manager Desktop program, which can be downloaded from this link . The link takes us to a Github repository. We go down to the section that says “Device/DevMode Manager for webOS TV”. There we will see a box, where the second column indicates the name of the file that we have to download according to the operating system we have. When we know what the file is, click on “latest release” in the text above. On the page that opens, we search for the file and download it.

Then, we open it and click on Add Device, located on the left. A window will ask which connection mode we prefer. We click on Developer Mode and click continue.

6. Enter password and IP

The following screen is simply informative so we can click on Skip. On the last screen, the program will ask the user for a name, IP address and passphrase. The name can be anything, but the other two will have to be the ones we noted in the previous step. We enter the data and click on Finish so that the program connects to the TV.

7. Download Kodi

Now is when we will have to download the latest version of Kodi for webOS on our computer. To do this, you can enter this link and download the most recent version as indicated in the Date column.

8. Select the file

Once the file is downloaded, we open Dev Manager Desktop again. In the program, click on Install and select the Kodi file. In case, for some reason, this step does not work, it is possible to download Kodi from the program in its applications section available for download. The thing is that, this way, you may not get the most updated version of Kodi.

9. Install Kodi

Finally, and whether we have obtained Kodi on our own or by downloading it through Dev Manager Desktop, we can proceed to install the application. We simply click on Install and this will finish the process.
