How to

TikTok video creator Shoandtech revealed that your iPhone 12 Pro still retains 100% of its original battery capacity after two years of use, and says it’s all down to how you charge it.

There is one thing that most iPhone (and other phone) users have in common: They charge phones overnight. Bad idea.

Whether it’s with a Lightning cable, MagSafe mount, or wireless charging pad, most people have a charger on their nightstand so they can wake up to a fully charged iPhone.

According to this user, that is not the best way. The video shows Shomes with an iPhone 13 Pro that he has since September 2021 with a maximum battery capacity of 100%. He also has an iPhone 12 Pro which is still 100 percent. The secret? He rarely charges his iPhone overnight.

The secret to optimal charging the iPhone

Shomes recommends charging iPhone as needed. If you go to sleep and it’s 40 or 50 percent charged, leave it. Then charge it sometime the next day when it’s red. In this way, the battery will not be stressed and its health will last much longer than if it is charged overnight.

Of course, this is not for everyone. Not everyone has access to a charger during the day, and some may find that this method leaves you with a dead battery just when you need it most. But if it’s practical for you, it’s good to try it.

If you need to charge overnight, Apple applies intelligent charge management to its current devices, learning your schedule and charging only to 80% initially, and topping it off to 100% when you usually take it off charge.
