The Nearby Share tool, a kind of Android AirDrop, has finally arrived for Windows PCs, in a beta version and open to use, allowing you to transfer files between Android devices and a machine with the Microsoft system.

The beta version of the app for download on the tool’s website, and promises compatibility with Windows 10 and higher (64-bit version), also having the requirements to enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections on the PC. In principle, there are no transfer restrictions —ranging from photos, documents, videos, audio or entire folders between devices.

Nearby Share on Windows features the same device visibility controls as Android—everyone, contacts, your devices, or even nobody. The transfer promises to still be protected by E2E encryption, and users have the option of allowing only their contacts to share with them.

The service, however, also requires Play Services installed and updated so that Android is ready to use Nearby Sharing, which excludes Android devices that do not work with pre-installed Google apps from the game. Nearby Sharing can be enabled or disabled on the device and is most apparent within the sharing options of a photo, video, link or even tweet.
