The Pixel cell phone line, from Google, is known for bringing some innovations and there is always a lot of expectation around the next releases. And an alleged company roadmap with future plans for the models was leaked by an informant.
According to the Android Authority website, which claims to have obtained the script from a reliable source linked to Google, several new features may arrive in the company’s smartphone lineup by 2025. And here are some of them separated by year.
According to the Android Authority tipster, Google is expected to unveil the first foldable Pixel next year as a direct competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Several rumors have already pointed to this and the company must follow this line.
Furthermore, the company should bring the Pixel 7a in April or May🇧🇷 Previous leaks claimed the model would have wireless charging and a 90Hz screen refresh rate. However, the source heard by the site did not confirm these features.
At the end of 2023, Google is expected to launch two new phones in its flagship series: the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro with the Tensor G3 chip🇧🇷 The source stated that there will be no significant changes for these models in direct comparison with the Pixel 7 series.
In 2024, the company should follow the same line as the previous year, according to the source. In the first half Google is expected to introduce the Pixel 8a, which has the codename “Akita”, but the model may be discarded if the Pixel 7a does not sell well.
The informant also stated that Google is thinking of launching the A-series devices every two years. This would make the line in tune with the Apple iPhone SEwhich launches every few years and remains active on store shelves.
In the second half of 2024, Google is expected to launch the Pixel 9 series with three models for the first time. The source said it will be a “normal” version, a Pro with a 6.7-inch screen and another codenamed “Caiman” with Pro features but a 6.3″ display.
All three of these cell phones must be equipped with the Tensor G4 chip, which is codenamed “Redondo”. There is even a plan for a follow-up foldable in 2024, but that will depend on consumer response to the first Fold.
In 2025, the last year commented by the website’s source Android Authority, Google must analyze its successes and failures of 2023 and 2024 to make a decision on which way to go, to continue investing in foldables or not.
At that moment, the company can launch a second folding model, in this case, a Pixel Flip, to directly compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series. If this is the way to go, the launch should take place in the second half of 2025.
However, if Google ditches the flip device, it will move forward with four non-foldable phones. This would be a basic model available in different sizes and a professional device also with two screen options.
Finally, it is worth noting that this alleged script is a rumor and may also change (if true) as the mobile market changes. Google declined to comment on the Android Authority report.
