In the context of Safer Internet Day, the Google team announced some security measures that will be implemented over the next few weeks.

One of the new features announced has to do with Google search results. Starting with a future update, Google will by default blur explicit images that appear in searches.

Google will blur explicit images by default

Blurring or blurring explicit images is part of the SafeSearch filter. An option that prevents those under 18 years of age from being exposed to explicit content when they perform a search on Google, both sexual and violent content. However, Google will implement this dynamic by default, without the need for the user to activate this option in the search engine.

[…] Soon, a new setting will blur explicit images if they appear in search results when SafeSearch filtering is not enabled. These settings will be the new default for people who don’t already have the SafeSearch filter turned on, with the option to adjust the setting at any time.

However, there is a detail to take into account in relation to the new default option that we will find in Google search results. Unlike the dynamic that SafeSearch offers with its filter, this new option will only blur the image, but will still keep the text and link of the content visible.

So if you share your computer or mobile with a minor, it is still prudent to configure the SafeSearch filter, since it hides both the image and the text and the link of the corresponding page. However, it is a more than interesting initiative that will provide extra security when children take any computer to access the Internet.

On the other hand, Google remembers that although it is an option that will be active by default, users can change this setting.
