This Wednesday (8), the Google released the first preview version of the mobile operating system android 14. The new build is only available to registered software developers and can now be installed on the company’s own devices.
It is worth mentioning that Android 14 Developer Preview (DP1) is in its first phase and it is not recommended that ordinary users install the system on their devices, considering that errors and bugs can occur during the use of the OS.
According to the development calendar released by Google, the availability of Android 14 for developers will happen by March. Between March and April, the company should release the first beta versions for users to test.
Between June and July, the software is expected to reach stability, with the final launch expected to take place between July and August. please note that Android 13 was officially released in August 2022.
Android 14 can currently be installed on the following devices:
- Pixel 4a 5G;
- Pixel 5
- Pixel 5a;
- Pixel 6;
- Pixel 6 Pro;
- pixel 6a;
- pixel 7;
- Pixel 7 Pro.
About the news of Android 14, the improvements in support for devices with larger screens stand out, as is the case of the function that will allow users to increase the system font by up to 200%. Currently, the maximum allowed is 130%.
The new version is also expected to include improvements focused on accessibility, battery power management and security. Google also cited advances in system customization and new features aimed at multi-lingual use.
Regarding security options, Android 14 will also automatically block malicious app permissions on the system. The system will allow the user to restrict which photos or videos apps can access, increasing privacy.
Google is also working on a new back gesture predictive model that gives the user a visual cue as to where the back gesture will take them. The novelty should prevent accidental exit from an application and improve usability.
Starting with Android 14, Android root storage has become updatable through Google Play, bringing more security to the software. Google is expected to reveal more details about the new OS during the annual I/O event, scheduled for May.
