The Play Store has improved in recent years from being just an app store to becoming a complete platform with movies, series, books and subscription options. This evolution was accompanied by the launch of new security layers to prevent the spread of malicious apps and fraudulent content.
Reportedly, Google’s anti-fraud program has had excellent results curbing fraudulent transactions that together add up to the equivalent of $2 billion. This information was shared on the company’s official website, which highlights the importance of security tools implemented in the Play Store.
As the big tech explains, in recent years two APIs have been launched to protect both the company and the developers of applications and games: the “API for canceled purchases” and the “Obfuscated account ID”. There is also the native Play Protect antivirus, but it focuses on malware rather than restricting fraud in the payment system.
The first feature allows you to understand the user’s history by identifying profiles commonly used for scams, while the second is able to detect fraudulent transactions of different types, including when a Google account is used on multiple devices making dozens of purchases in a short period.
