Google Meet, the well-known Google virtual meeting service, is beginning to allow video calls to be carried out at 1080p quality, although it will not be available to all users initially, as we will see below.

This possibility will be available to users who are under certain editions of Google Workspace, or are Google One subscribers with 2TB or more of cloud storage, as long as they also meet other requirements that make video calls to this service viable. resolution.

Technical requirements to meet

And it is also necessary to carry out the video call from the web through a computer with a 1080p webcam and sufficient computing power in meetings between two participants. And also, that there is enough bandwidth to make it possible, since otherwise, Google says that it will adjust the resolution in case the device where the video call is made is under a limited bandwidth.

A completely optional video quality

Those lucky enough to already have access to this substantial quality improvement will be asked if they want to use it before joining any meeting, although they will also have the ability to turn it on or off from the settings menu, keeping in mind that this option is located disabled by default.

With its gradual arrival, taking into account that this improvement will be deployed over several weeks, it will be the users who can choose to use it or not, with no control for administrators in any way.

And in addition to Google One subscribers with 2TB or more of storage space, supported Google Workspaces editions are Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Education Plus, Enterprise Essentials and Frontline.

Both personal account users and users under the Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Nonprofit Organizations, and G Suite Basic and Business plans are left out of access to 1080p resolution.

Adding improvements and news over time

This novelty comes a few hours after Meet also began to have improvements in the dynamics of the presentations.

Although these types of services have already been left behind a bit with the return to normality, focusing more efforts, and headlines, on the generative Artificial Intelligence models, the big technology companies will not leave them aside, seeking to continue implementing improvements and novelties that are possible in order that the rivals do not take the lead.
