Goodbye to the Assistant driving mode

Google killed Android Auto for phones and promised us that we wouldn’t miss it because instead we could use the driving mode of the Google Assistant. For a moment it seemed like this was going to be the case, when they later added a new home screen as a launcher. A year later, Google loaded this screen.

Since then, Google Assistant’s driving mode survives as a bottom bar that appears on Google Maps during a route, but not for much longer. When we display that bar we see the list of applications with calls, messages and multimedia applications and now a new notice: “this view will disappear in February”.
