Google Assistant prepares to be able to confirm payments by voice: a striking option for smart displays and speakers

Until now you arrived, you paid with your mobile and if you had to, you confirmed that purchase with your fingerprint or facial recognition. Those two options could soon be joined by another developed by Google and which would allow the same, but with the voice.

This development presents a very interesting way to authorize and confirm payments using Google Assistant, and it seems specially designed for speakers and smart displays from which we made those purchases.

A pilot project that aims at a future of voice purchases

To complete this purchase process with your voice Google will use its Voice Match system, the same that allows recognizing different users of the same device to provide personalized responses to each of them.

Google has confirmed that effectively starting a pilot project with this type of system. The option has been discovered in the Google Assistant sentences, within the “Payments” section. It is there where a new element appears called “Confirm with Voice Match”, something that they explain from Google’s own support documentation.

The ability to authorize and confirm payments through speakers and smart displays with voice, however, is being implemented on a limited basis: for now, only in-app purchases can be paid (as extra content for games) through Google Play, in addition to ordering food at home to certain restaurants.
