It’s time to stay well-informed about everything that happened in the last few days in another edition of Plantão TC, our weekly “newspaper” where we separate the best news of the week so that you can stay on top of everything in one place.

In this week’s edition we will highlight the launch of the new Galaxy M54 5G and M14 5G here in Europe, in addition to the presentation of the new Motorola Edge 40 Pro in Europe.

In addition, we also have another chapter in the dispute between China and the United States, a new privacy feature in WhatsApp and the possible support of software for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 line.

China to investigate US chip maker over ‘security risks’

China’s government has decided to carry out a cybersecurity investigation into the chips produced by Micron in a move that is being seen as a clear retaliation for US sanctions.

In a statement distributed earlier this week, the Cyberspace Administration of China said it will review all memory chips that Micron sells in the country.

According to the body, this will be done to “ensure the security of key information infrastructure supply chains, prevent cybersecurity risks caused by hidden product issues and maintain national security”.

Market analysts believe that the problem should be resolved quickly, but there is a certain fear about possible impacts on Micron, since 10% of the company’s revenues come from China.

In addition, there are also those who believe that the Chinese government will start to make life difficult for American chip makers operating in the country.

WhatsApp may soon launch a feature to block individual conversations

WhatsApp is testing a feature that lets you protect individual conversations with an extra layer of security. So you can simply lock those most private conversations in an exclusive tab that can only be unlocked with the fingerprint reader.

The novelty is being tested in the beta version of Android and is an important improvement, since currently you can only block the entire application and not just specific conversations.

The folks at WABetaInfo were also able to confirm that WhatsApp should erase the history of these conversations if an unauthorized person makes multiple attempts to unlock the protected tab.

For now, the feature is in testing and does not have a release date in the stable version of the messenger.

Apple may end support for iPhone X and some iPads running iOS 17

Apple may end software support for the iPhone X, iPhone 8 lineup and other iPads with the release of iOS 17. Sources say the company is adding a lot of features in the new software version and this could make the iPhone X and the other devices cannot run them with the expected performance.

Thus, the only viable option is to leave devices without support for iOS 17, but receiving sporadic security updates, something that still happens today with iOS 15.

For now, Apple does not comment on the matter. Thus, we stress that everything should be considered as just another rumor.

ROG Ally console confirmed by ASUS after appearing in April Fool’s prank

ASUS ROG Ally console should be released soon. The Taiwanese manufacturer confirmed the existence of the device after making a joke on April Fools’ Day, and currently the console can already be reserved through a retailer.

When looking at the console’s reservation page, we can see that the ROG Ally must use Windows 11 as the operating system, which means that it will be natively compatible with Xbox Game Streaming, Microsoft’s cloud gaming service.

In addition, the handheld console features a dual-fan design to dissipate heat from the AMD APU. The Ally should still have the Armory Crate app, something that allows you to run all PC games within this platform with greater convenience in the reduced screen and alternative controls.

Finally, if the power of the ROG Ally is not enough, it will still be possible to connect an external GPU ROG XG while the console is charging, allowing the user to view all the content on a big TV with improved graphics and additional controls to play in multiplayer local.
