Those who turned in to the All-Ireland semi final between Dublin and Mayo were all set for a pulsating atmosphere in Croke Park.

24,000 people were given tickets to the clash between the old rivals, but there was one person – or at least one thing – that seemed to spoil it for a lot of people.

Because someone brought in a bell to the HQ of the GAA, and they were very close to the microphones.

The Dubs were comfortable at the end of the first half, leading by seven points.

But all anyone could talk about was the instrument in the stands!

One person tweeted: “That bell is making it worse.”

Another added: “Someone take that bell off whoever is ringing it in Croker

While a third said: “Can someone calm down the primary school teacher ringing the bell in the stands.

“The ringing of that bell would drive you mad, sounds like someone ringing sos in the Gaeltacht” added a fourth.

Incredibly, Mayo pulled back the deficit to force extra time, with the temperatures rising on and off the field just as the Mayo comeback was complete.

Then, in extra time, the Connacht champions held strong to end the six year reign of the capital in the All-Ireland football championship.

They now await either Kerry or Tyrone.
