Times are changing, even when it comes to being entertained and informed through television screens. To the declining interest in free-to-air television channels through DTT, at least in Spain, we must add the numerous changes that the sector of video-on-demand transmission platforms has been undergoing for some time.

Now it will be HBO Max that will experience a radical change, despite the fact that a little over a month ago the Wall Street Journal published that for the moment the merger of HBO Max and Discovery + would not take place in exchange to give rise to a new streaming platform.

In the end there will be a merger

Bloomberg, based on sources close to the operation, published a few days ago that the merger of both platforms will finally take place, and that it will be officially reported on April 12 at a press event in the United States. , despite the fact that the new platform will also be presented to the public over the “next few weeks”, starting its takeoff in the United States and Canada.

In this regard, it is reported that the resulting new platform will be called simply “Max”, eliminating the name “HBO”, since according to sources, HBO “remove many potential subscribers”, and will have a complete catalog of content result of the merger of HBO Max and Discovery +, thereby seeking to compete with Netflix, Disney + and Amazon.

To access it, users can opt for a subscription plan of 10 dollars a month with advertising, or a plan of 15 or 16 dollars a month without advertising, although a new plan will arrive that will cost 20 dollars a month, which it says will come with better video quality and other additional features, which have not yet been revealed.

Reorganizations in the transmission platform sector

And since the plans are still being deliberated internally, there is a possibility that changes may arise along the way, according to the aforementioned media.

HBO Max will not be the only platform to undergo a complete transformation, as Disney+ is also working on a similar operation, which is said to sell part of its stake in Hulu.

It is clear that the sector has reached a saturation point, where logically there is no possible time to be on all existing platforms, so users must opt for one or the other depending on their preferences and possibilities.

It is already a matter of waiting to know all the details and how the global deployment will take place.
