Google has already announced that the new Gmail design, which will change the way Spaces, Meet and Google Chat interact, is just around the corner. It will be available for testing starting in February, then it will be a requirement in April and by the end of the second quarter of 2022 the only option.

What will Google call this new view of Gmail?

Google calls this new update “the integrated view”. And if you’re already a Workspace customer, February 8 will be more than familiar to you. Keep in mind that in February you will be able to try it for yourself, but in April Google will be a bit insistent that you use it and will give you the option to go to settings to change it to the old view later.

However, that option will then disappear in Q2, at which point Google will make it the standard view.

If you like to review one thing at a time, you’re in luck.

The new Workspace view for Gmail will let you manage meetings and chats separately. Which you couldn’t do with the old version, where everything was on one page. There will even be notification bubbles that will let you know if you need to attend to some of the tools present in Workspace. So you won’t have to be distracted by the wave of chats that are always present on the left or right side of the mailbox.

Services will be highly integrated

Google’s goal is to optimally integrate all your products work related. We have an example of this with Spaces, since you can open a spreadsheet without having to leave Gmail. All this indicates that the new interface will be more organized.

Google is so interested in making services integrated in Gmail that Gmail search will now also show messages from chats in the coming months.

Who will this new Workspace update reach?

Well, Google also reported that this integrated and organized view will only be available to those who use these services: Google Workspace Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Frontline, Nonprofit, G Suite Basic, or Business.

Therefore, it will not be available to users using Workspace Essentials. Hopefully the new view delivers what it promises and everyone who enjoys it will feel more organized.
