Everything about MIUI 12: and list of Xiaomi mobiles that can be updated

These are the main news of MIUI 12 and the first Xiaomi phones to be updated. It is the new customization layer of the Asian manufacturer that introduces both functional, aesthetic and safety innovations.

Xiaomi is one of the companies that uses Android for their mobiles and, like the vast majority, has its own personalization layer. This is MIUI, a cape that has been gaining presence and “autonomy” over the years, and now we have a new version. We tell you all the details of MIUI 12, the new Xiaomi system.

In case you did not know, and you thought that each brand of mobile has its own operating system, we remind you that within Android there are three systems. On the one hand, we have the purest version, Android stock. On the other, an Android One (which Xiaomi has used in the Mi A3, for example) which is a very clean version of Android controlled in a way by Google. Finally Android Go, a version for mobile phones that is not very powerful.

The vast majority of manufacturers have Android stock as the base to which they add a layer of software. In the case of Xiaomi, that layer is MIUI, which works by changing the aesthetics and adding functions that may not be in the original system. After making a leap in aesthetics and functions with the tenth version, and having a very stable eleventh, it is time to know all the characteristics of the new MIUI 12 that Xiaomi has presented along with the Mi 10 Youth.

Global 2.0 dark mode

Dark mode can be used to conserve battery life (when painting absolute black backgrounds and applications) or to be more pleasing to the eye in different situations. Currently, not all apps support this dark mode, and different manufacturers are working to fix that.

One of the main novelties of MIUI 12 is the dark mode 2.0 that dyes black new system applications, but also third parties. In addition to expanding the number of compatible applications, what Xiaomi’s new dark mode does is better integrate colors, making the tone more natural.

Similarly, MIUI 12 adds global dark mode function. One of the improvements in this mode is that it automatically recognizes both the app’s colors and the text and their characteristics, adapting and inverting the colors even if the application does not have a native dark mode.

‘Super wallpaper’, new animations and more Always-on Display

Visual customization is one of the keys to the Xiaomi system and, of course, it is not lost on MIUI 12. The Chinese company has introduced the “super wallpapers”, a feature that allows us to put a dynamic and tuned wallpaper for both the lock screen and the main screen of the terminal.

The best way to see how it works is with this video:

In addition to the Super Wallpaper, Xiaomi is going to introduce many new animations in the system. We have been able to see animations within the configuration menu, in the different sections, but also when moving applications, deleting them and changing settings in the notification bar.

Finally, Xiaomi has announced that MIUI 12 will have more than 1,000 new wallpapers and animations ‘always on screen’ to customize the terminal. All Redmi and Xiaomi phones with AMOLED panel will benefit from this.

Floating multitasking that reminds us a lot of iOS

Beyond personalization, which is always important, MIUI 12 offers improvements in multitasking. Thanks to the new function, notifications will allow us to open the corresponding application to read the message quickly thanks to the “throw” gesture. If we do it again, but in the opposite direction, we close the open app in multitasking without closing the app that we were seeing in the foreground.

On the other hand, there will also be improvements in multitasking to superimpose applications on windows.

More security and TÃœV Rheinland certification

With MIUI 11 they already assured us that they would take care of our data, and it is something that is repeated with the new version. For it, Xiaomi has developed an API called Mobile AI Compute Engine which will be responsible for ensuring the privacy of the user.

According to the Chinese company, although we need more details about this, the personal data that will be saved will be minimal, and focused on the operation of the terminal. Further, this data will not be stored on third-party servers And the applications will be obliged to notify us when they are geolocating us or they need the camera or microphone of the terminal.

Another improvement is that we can remove metadata from the photos if we do not want anyone to know the conditions, the time or the place where they were taken, and it has also been announced that MIUI 12 is one of the first Android layers with TÃœV Rheinland security certification.

MIUI 12 compatible phones

Xiaomi is characterized by providing coverage with its new layers of personalization to a large number of devices, both recent and some generations ago. It is something we saw with an MIUI 11 based on Android 9 (when it should be based on Android 10) that arrived at the oldest terminals of the Chinese company.
