Waze Carpool arrived in Europe in 2018 as a way to save money when taking short trips together with other users, but this possibility will soon be eliminated. The termination of the service was communicated by the company in a statement sent to The Verge.
According to Waze, the change was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which made the company change its strategies and made the use of Carpool unfeasible due to the ease of contamination in closed environments, which required people to social distance for long months. .
As such, Waze Carpool will end in September in Europe, the United States and Israel, where it has been available since 2018.
Waze’s note to The Verge reads:
While Waze was predominantly a commute app [na era] pre-COVID, today the proportion of tasks and travel has surpassed commuting. This means we have the opportunity to find even more impactful ways to bring together a global community to share insights in real time and help each other overcome traffic — that’s what has always made Waze really special.
In this way, only Waze Carpool will be closed, but the navigation application will continue to be available to everyone with all the facilities and forms of contribution in real time to avoid congestion, accidents and facilitate transportation in traffic, especially in large urban centers.
