Elon Musk e il 'tocco' di SpaceX: dal dinosauro giocattolo al touchscreen - Aggiornata

Elon Musk. These words would be enough to light a “light bulb” in the mind of many fans of the world of space exploration and not. On the other hand, we are talking about a character who has made himself known not only for his businesses but also for some nice touches worth mentioning.

Between countless gimmicks from the CEO of SpaceX, there are the launch of a Tesla Roadster with the Starman mannequin and the nerd goodies present in the space society factory. This is just to mention two ideas clearly coming from Musk’s mind, but there are many others.

Focusing on the launch of the Crew Dragon capsule that took place yesterday (today there will be the arrival of astronauts on the ISS), there are at least two very interesting ideas. The first one is the presence of a toy dinosaur near the astronauts. Yes, you got it right: Musk wanted to place this object inside the capsule, continuing a “tradition” that has been going on for years.

In fact, according to what reported by The Verge, cosmonauts have brought toys with them several times during space travel. It’s not just about marketing, but the dinosaur wanted by Musk indicates to the astronauts the absence of gravity, since it starts to float. As early as 2019, Elon Musk had shown on Twitter one of these toys.

By the way, the page dedicated to the dinosaur appeared briefly on the official SpaceX website, where the latter it was sold for $ 25 (about 22 euros at the current exchange rate). However, at the time of writing, the page appears to be unreachable.

Going beyond the toy, the mission that had its launch yesterday 30 May 2020 saw the use of an important technology, desired by Elon Musk: touch screen panels for astronauts. In short, no more old control modules such as those of the Shuttle or Apollo: Robert L. Behnken and Douglas G. Hurley can control everything via three large screens and a few buttons below them. In any case, most of the manoeuvres take place automatically, so the controls are not actually used so often.

Update at 13:11 31/05/2020: We added to the news a video published by SpaceX, recorded directly during the mission, in which the two astronauts show the inside of the capsule and present the toy dinosaur to the general public.
