Amazon has introduced its largest e-reader to date, the Kindle Scribe. Not only can you read on it, you can also write on it yourself thanks to the stylus.

The Kindle Scribe is Amazon’s largest e-reader to date: the display of the reader, which Amazon presented on Wednesday evening, measures 10.2 inches. In addition to its size, the Kindle Scribe also stands out from the Amazon reader portfolio with its writing function: the price of at least 370 euros includes a stylus that users can use to draw on the display themselves.

You can use it to make notes in books or keep a diary, Amazon suggests. The input pens are available in two versions: Both models can be attached magnetically to the side of the device and offer different line thicknesses, a highlighter and an eraser on the software side, which can be accessed via a display menu. The premium model of the stylus also has a special eraser on the top and a shortcut button whose function you can define yourself. The pens work without electricity.

According to Amazon, to-do lists created with a stylus are automatically stored in the cloud free of charge. Amazon promises that they will be available on smartphones and tablets via the Kindle app from early 2023. The Kindle Scribe could be practical in combination with the “Send to Kindle” function, which can be accessed from the PC or smartphone. This allows you to send documents to the Scribe in order to then fill them out or sign them on the e-reader. Also from the beginning of 2023, there will be a function directly in Microsoft Word to send documents to the Kindle Scribe.

The Kindle Scribe is 5.8 millimeters thick and offers a glare-free display with a front light whose color temperature can be regulated. Amazon specifies the pixel density of the screen as 300 ppi, which corresponds to other models in the Kindle series such as the recently announced new edition of the base model. The Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis also have a pixel density of 300 ppi.

Externally, the Kindle Scribe is reminiscent of an oversized version of the Kindle Oasis: the grip sits on the side next to the display – in contrast to the standard and Paperwhite models of the Kindle, where it sits underneath. Unlike the Kindle Oasis, however, the Scribe lacks physical page-turning buttons. The Scribe also doesn’t have a thicker place to grip.

The Kindle Scribe can be pre-ordered from Amazon starting Wednesday evening and is expected to ship in the fourth quarter. The entry-level price of 370 euros refers to the model with 16 GB of storage space and a standard stylus. There are also versions with 32 and 64 GB of memory.
