The High Court has approved a compensation settlement of € 4.6 million in respect of the circumstances surrounding the delivery of a baby in Cavan General Hospital in 2017.

It was said in court that the boy Tadhg McKenna needs full-time care because of an abundance of mistakes made in his life.

The two-year-old is suffering from cerebral palsy because of what happened in hospital.

The court said that the Health Service Executive and Cavan General Hospital have taken full responsibility for what happened to Tadhg, and today apologized to the boy and his family.

It is, however, a matter of disappointment to his family that, until now, the Executive and the hospital have not accepted responsibility.

Counsel for the McKenna family said Tadhg's fight for his life every day is a result of his negligence.

An interim arrangement was approved today and it was stated that the money is to be paid gradually over the next five years.
