Dublin Fire Brigade bids warm farewell to ‘popular’ officer

Tributes have been paid to a member of the Dublin Fire Brigade who is set to retire after three decades of service.

District Officer Noel Cunningham took his last parade on Wednesday as the crew gathered to celebrate his long career.

Noel, who is described as a “very popular officer”, joined Dublin Fire Brigade in 1992 and has worked at a number of fire stations since.

A spokesperson for Dublin Fire Brigade said: “After 30 years of service District Officer Noel Cunningham has taken his last parade.

“C Watch firefighters and officers gathered in Headquarters to pay tribute to Noel and his career.

“Noel joined Dublin Fire Brigade in 1992 having previously served in the Dublin Airport Police, Fire and Rescue Service.

“Noel worked in Kilbarrack and North Strand fire stations and became involved in local community organisations including GAA clubs and Coolock Credit Union.

“A very popular officer, Noel was well known for his competence and commitment to the welfare of firefighters. Thanks, Noel, for everything.”

People took to the comments to pay tributes to Noel with one person saying: “Congrats, Noel. Enjoy your retirement.

“You deserve it. Thanks for all the chats and laughs down through the years while you were visiting Beaumont A&E with clients.”

Another person added: “Congrats, Noel , enjoy your retirement and thank you for your service.”
