Computers in a store

When we buy a computer, we generally make a large investment of money in the hope that it will last several years working well. And, if we choose a good model, with mid-range or high-end hardware, it will probably be like that. However, as with all electronic devices, over time, the components become damaged and everything begins to work little by little worse, and cause more problems. If we add to this the planned obsolescencesooner or later there will come a time when, yes or yes, it will be time to change PC.

If we use the computer daily, whether for work or play, surely after a while we will begin to notice that things do not work as they did at the beginning. As with mobile phones and tablets, both the device itself component wear such as the planned obsolescence of manufacturers and large companies, are beginning to be noticed.

That’s when, almost always, It’s time to change computers. Today we are going to tell you which are the clearest clues that indicate that, indeed, that moment has arrived. And also some tricks that manufacturers don’t want you to know to extend the useful life of that PC a little more.

The PC is very slow

Surely we have noticed that, when we turned on the computer for the first time when we bought it, it ran very fast. However, as time went by, the PC began to slow down, even taking several minutes to boot and open programs.

When this happens, three things can happen: first, that the hardware is wearing out (especially if it is an SSD, which deteriorates over time). It may also happen that, if we buy a low-end or Chinese-made laptop, it is falling short of the system requirements and programs. And even if the problem is that screams for formatting.

We can try formatting and reinstalling Windows from scratch to see if it works well again. But, if it doesn’t, we will almost certainly have to buy a new one.

Can’t update Windows

Although it is true that Windows does not ask for excessively high requirements, and works on almost any computer, with the launch of Windows 11 things changed. Microsoft greatly limited the compatible CPUs so that they are new and, in addition, requires that the processor have certain instructions, as well as the use of TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot to be able to use this system.

If your computer does not meet all of this, it is time to change for a new PC. And next year, support for Windows 10 ends, so from then on, continuing to use Windows is going to be dangerous.

Since it is a requirements problem, there is little that can be done except buy a new PC. Unless, of course, we decide give Linux a chance and be able to continue using this PC with a new operating system.

Too loud or too hot

The components of a PC generate heat. A lot, if it is a high-end PC. Therefore, you need very powerful cooling systems to keep this temperature at bay. The heatsinks and fans of new computers are usually quite silent. Therefore, a sign of problems is if estros make too much noise.

If so, there may be several reasons. The first of them is that they are dirty, and with a cleaning (which involves opening the PC) can be solved. But, if not fixed, the fans may have broken. And, in that case, unless it is a desktop PC, we will surely not find spare parts, and we will have to change PC.

Very dirty PC fan

Something similar applies in case we have temperature problems. If the computer gets too hot, there may be a problem with the fans, or with the thermal paste. We can try changing the paste, and cleaning the heatsink and fans, to reduce this temperature and avoid having to buy new equipment.

Laptop battery does not last

The battery… the component that is most damaged over time. Surely when you connected the computer for the first time the battery lasted several hours without problems. But there may come a time when, By simply unplugging it from the socket, the laptop turns off completely.

Here we have two options. The first of them is to try to change the computer battery (if we find a replacement on the Internet) to give it a second life. Or, the second, buy a new computer. If the problem is the battery, it means that it has been around for several years, and it is normal for it to cause problems.

The screen has spots or light leaks

Another element that can fail in a computer is the screen. If it is a desktop PC, nothing happens, since changing the monitor would be fine. But on laptops it is not possible. If we have a laptop, and we realize that the screen starts to give problems (it looks bad, it turns off, it has light leaks, color problems, etc.), we will have no choice but to change laptops.

Anyway, to make sure it is a hardware problem, we can try booting a Live operating system, from a USB, to make sure it is not a Windows configuration problem. And, if we don’t want to change the laptop, it will work perfectly connected to a PC monitor.
