Discord and Microsoft are teaming up to enable Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X console users to access Discord voice calls on Xbox, so they can share their favorite gaming feats with their friends.

For now, this feature is reaching Xbox Insiders so that later, without a set date at the moment, it can be available to other Xbox console users.

Carrying the experiences of the world gaming further away

The process, yes, will not be easy, since the function is not direct, being necessary to have the Xbox mobile application, which will act as an intermediary between the Discord platform and the Xbox console that is available.

Then it will be necessary to connect the Xbox account with the account available in Discord. Discord notes that if they’ve already been linked before, they’ll need to be linked again to “grant the new permissions needed to access Voice on your Xbox console.”

From this point on, once you want to join a call, you’ll need to start the voice call on Discord and then hit the “transfer to Xbox” option and choose one of the consoles from the Xbox mobile app.

Discord indicates that voice call transfers to Xbox have support for voice channels within servers, as well as direct messages and group direct messages. And about future plans, it seems that there is good harmony between both platforms, which may lead to deeper integrations in the future:

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Xbox and creating even deeper and more meaningful experiences for your friends and communities. Who knows what the future holds for us! In addition to more video games, obviously.

This movement contrasts with the fact that, despite the fact that PlayStation Network users have also been able to link their accounts with those they have on Discord, so far there has been no integration, despite the association carried out last year, where Sony has invested an unknown amount of money, becoming a minority investor in Discord due to rumors of a possible acquisition by Microsoft.
