A few days ago, the second film in the Avatar franchise hit theaters, which after years, seems to have managed to meet expectations and match its predecessor, both in terms of critics’ ratings and box office numbers.
Even before the release of the second film, director James Cameron had already confirmed that he plans to close the franchise, at least initially, with five films. In view of the time it took to release Avatar: The Way of Water, many are concerned about the release date of the next ones, but at least Avatar 3 and 4 seem to be well underway.
In a recent interview, Jon Landau, producer of the Avatar franchise, spoke a little about the upcoming films after Avatar and how these productions are progressing.
Previously, Landau had confirmed that the first act of Avatar 4 is already filmed, but now he’s revealed new information that suggests we won’t have to worry about the release schedule – one movie every two years – being delayed because all the next sequels already have a script and Avatar 3 is well underway. Landau detailed how the entire project mapped out, defended director James Cameron’s work, and hinted at the future.
What we did is, first of all, we completed all four scripts for 2, 3, 4, and 5. [O elenco] read them. They know where their characters are going. They know. It informs how they interpret these scenes. We went out and shot all of movie 2. We shot 95% of movie 3. We still have a chunk to shoot. And we shot the first act of movie 4. […] I think one of the great things that we’ve done, and what Jim has done in these scripts, is that each movie is going to take you to new biomes and new cultures. And I think one of the things Avatar has is this idea of ’Oel ngati cameos’. I see you. And it’s not about seeing you as you are physically or as you are. It’s about seeing you from the inside, and the idea we have to introduce new diverse clans that feel different from the Omaticaya, and send a metaphor to our world, and accept people for who they are on the inside and not judge them for who they are. are outside.
The producer’s information is certainly encouraging and makes us even more excited to find out what the future of the franchise holds for us.
If the schedule is really fulfilled, we can wait for the new films in 2024, 2026 and 2028, but will we still have more projects beyond that?
So, looking forward to the next Avatar movies?
