The new WhatsApp for Windows is more useful than ever after adding two new features

At the end of last year, WhatsApp surprised us with a completely new version of its version for Windows, commonly called WhatsApp UWP. This new version created from scratch is a native app for Windows 10/11 and as a consequence it was released a little greenwith many pending functions.

Over time, WhatsApp for Windows UWP has caught up with the standard version, adding stickers, for example. Now, version 2.2221.4.0 adds two other features that were still pending: the recording of voice memos and photos that can only be viewed once.

WhatsApp UWP catches up

The new version of WhatsApp for Windows still had important shortcomings that probably fell short for those who used WhatsApp a lot. Slowly but surely, the Meta engineers have gone improving the application and adding what was still pending, which was not little. After all, it was launched with the basics and little else.

Half a year later, WhatsApp UWP begins to match the “standard” version of WhatsApp for Windows, although basic things and others that WhatsApp recently added to its application were still missing. For example, it was not possible send photos that can only be viewed once.

After the last update of WhatsApp for Windows -which you can get through the Microsoft Store, in Windows 10 and Windows 11- the application finally allows you to send photos that can only be viewed once, using the attach menu and choosing a file that is a photo. It is also possible to view single view photos that have been sent to you.

An even more important shortcoming is that it was not possible to send voice messages. You could listen to what other people sent, but from the UWP version of WhatsApp you couldn’t reply with a voice message. The latest update finally includes the microphone icon at the bottom right of the app.

For now, voice recording is somewhat more basic than what we find in the WhatsApp application. Clicking the button starts the recording and as soon as we hit the send button it will be sent. Unable to pause or listen to recording before sendingAt least for the moment.

With these two novelties, WhatsApp UWP is now much better prepared to be used as a system to chat from the PC, although it is still behind. For example, in this version it is not yet possible to react to messages.
