WhatsApp Beta is back to update to bring to a good number of beta testers a new feature that we know has already been in development for over a month for the popular messaging app, namely the ability to mention all users in a group.

The new option, called @everyonesupports the classic mentions of individual users and allows you to mention all the members present in the group chat on WhatsApp at the same time, allowing those who need to communicate something urgent to save time on individual mentions.

WhatsApp Beta: the “everyone” mention in groups is rolling out

In September, it emerged that the WhatsApp team was preparing the @everyone mention to notify everyone in a group chat and had even thought about a way to allow users to mute all mentions in group chats.

These efforts seem to materialize with the version 2.25.31.9 of WhatsApp Beta which makes both of these innovations (actually connected to each other) available to a good number of beta testers.

Just enter a group chat and type “@” in the text box to see it appear new possibility “everyone” at the top of the list of users (of the group) who can be mentioned. By sending “@tutti” we will, in fact, go to mention all members present in the group chat.

Once the message has been sent, if we tap on @tutti, a pop-up called Mention all (a sign that the development is not yet complete but we are on the right track): the pop-up explains that “if you mention all members, they will be notified of an important message“.

At the same time, the pop-up offers a link to the notification settings within the messaging app to allow users to also deactivate those of the “@tutti” mention. There are two options available: Everyone (all messages in the group) or Highlighted (@mentions, @all, @replies and other relevant messages).

This new feature is rolling out to a good number of beta testers with the version 2.25.31.9 of WhatsApp Beta and we expect it to reach even more users with the upcoming preview versions of the popular messaging app. The release on the stable channel should not be long in coming.

For the record, we must point out that if you have received the option to mention all users and decide to try this new feature, it may not work properly: specifically, if you mention a user who has not received the function, they will receive a normal message on their smartphone with the word “@all”.
