A new generation of IKEA smart products
With this new range, IKEA has effectively rebuilt its offering for the smart home from scratchstarting from the experience gained over years of development and field testing in real homes; the goal is to make domestic technology simpler, more intuitive and above all closer to people’s daily needs.
As explained by David Granath, Range Manager of IKEA Sweden, “Until now, smart home technology hasn’t been simple enough for most people to use, nor accessible enough for many to consider. This launch brings us closer to our goal of helping everyone feel ready and confident to get started“.
Lighting, sensors and control: the three pillars of the new IKEA Home Smart ecosystem
The new IKEA Home Smart range is organized into three main segments, which represent the foundations of a modern and easily expandable connected home over time:
- Lighting -> the new series KAJPLATS includes 11 smart light bulbs in different shapes, sizes and brightness levels, available in white or colored spectrum versions, all are dimmable and designed to integrate perfectly with the Matter standard; compared to the previous TRÅDFRI line offer more color options and wider intensity rangesas well as a more refined design ranging from the classic E27 to the compact E14 and GU10 spotlights
- Sensors -> five new models expand the concept of the smart home to also include well-being and security, starting from MYGGSPRAYa motion sensor for indoors and outdoors, through the MYGGBETT for doors and windows, up to sensors TIMMERFLEET for temperature and humidity, then there are ALPSTUGA which measures air quality with CO₂ and PM2.5 e KLIPPBOK for water leak detection; they are all designed to work both independently and in integration with the DIRIGERA hub or with other Matter-compatible systems

- Check -> device management also becomes more practical thanks to the new remote controls BILRESAavailable in two versions (with double button or scroll wheel) and in colored sets; completing the range is the intelligent socket GRILLPLATSwhich allows you to transform any lamp or small appliance into a smart device, with energy monitoring and remote control functions

Matter and DIRIGERA hub compatibility at the center of the experience
All new products have been designed to work with the Matter standardthe protocol born from the collaboration between Google, Apple, Amazon and other industry giants; this means that IKEA devices will be able to easily integrate with voice assistants and platforms such as Google Home, Alexa or Apple Home, without the need for closed ecosystems or complex configurations.
At the center of the system remains thehub DIRECTcertified as Matter controller and Matter Bridgecapable of managing both new compatible products and non-Matter IKEA devices already on the market; in this way, even those who own TRÅDFRI bulbs or older generation accessories will be able to continue to use them within the new ecosystem.
Towards a more human and universal smart home
With over a decade of experience in the sector (the first step dates back to 2012) IKEA reiterates its underlying philosophy: technology must have a purpose, not be an end in itself. The company promises to continue expanding the Home Smart line into new categories, always maintaining an approach based on simplicity, accessibility and sustainability.
As Granath further concludes: “We believe that technology should have a purpose, not exist as an end in itself. With over 900 million store visits each year, I think we’re on track to help more people discover the benefits of a smarter home“.
The arrival on the market of the new range is expected in the next few weeks, with prices and availability not yet officially communicated and which will vary depending on the country.
