Google Translator is one of those applications used by Android users (and not only), both in personal and professional fields, despite its immense potential in automatic translation, the app has never really offered tools designed for the active learning of a new language; This scenario, apparently, is destined to change very soon.
Thanks to what is identified in version 9.7.102 of Google Translator, interesting news emerged in the development phase that could soon enrich the application: we are talking about the new feature “Exercise“, But also of the introduction of a Research shortcut Intelligent designed to deepen the translated text.

Learning becomes an integral part of Google Translator with the exercise function
The most awaited functionality, and probably also the most revolutionary, is undoubtedly “Exercise“: A system that will allow users of improve one’s linguistic competence directly through Google Translator. As many will have intuition, it is a way that winks at the model made popular with platforms such as Duolingo, proposing interactive exercises and linguistic challenges.
Based on the code identified, the initial integration of “exercise” will be limited to the English-spanish language pair, but it is more than lawful to assume that Google extends support to other languages before the official launch; Not only that, access to the function will require login and enabling the microphonesuggesting that activities based on the voice will be provided and that users’ progress will probably be traced over time.
From the point of view of the interface, the new functionality will be well integrated in the experience of daily use, on the main page of Google Translator a New dedicated button (probably labeled as a beta in the initial phase) and, moreover, the icon to practice will also be visible in the translation results when supported languages will translate.
Currently, as often happens with functionality in development, by touching the “exercise” button there is no concrete response, the system tries to load an internal web page which, to date, is not yet active.

A new research shortcut to deepen the translated text
Next to the function we have just talked about, the analysis of the app code has also revealed another interesting news: one Research shortcut integrated directly on the translation results page. Alongside the classic buttons such as “copy”, a New button with the Google logo which, once pressed, will allow you to immediately look for the text translated into the destination language.
In the expected operation, by touching this button a new window will open with the search results and, based on the strings of code found, Google may dynamically decide whether to show the results within the Google app or through the predefined browser; A double way that, at the moment, is not yet completely clear and could depend on variables such as the language used or the user’s preferences.
At the moment there is no official date for the debut of the “exercise” function or the new research shortcut, as often happens, the identification of hidden features does not necessarily guarantee an imminent or certain release; They could be modified, postponed or, in some cases, even deleted before reaching the general public.
However, considering the strategic importance of Google Translator, it is plausible that Google is working to enrich the user experience more and more, transforming it from a simple translation tool to a real educational platform. We will therefore have to patient a little more, waiting to see these features land in the stable versions of the app.
