The Blackview Tab 10 is one of the inexpensive tablets with Full HD and LTE. The test shows how the tablet performs and where it weakens.

Tablets for entertainment on the couch don’t have to be expensive. Those who mainly use the device to surf the web, watch video clips and play simple games rarely have to spend more than 200 euros. A clear example of an inexpensive model is the Blackview Tab 10, which has an LTE modem as standard so that mobile data tariffs (offers) can also be used on the go.

The Chinese manufacturer has primarily made a name for itself with outdoor smartphones, but also offers Android tablets. The equipment with Full HD display and 4/64 GB memory is impressive for the price in addition to LTE. We tested the tablet and show how it fares in comparison to the competition from Samsung, Lenovo and Nokia.

Blackview delivers the Tab 10 in a protective case made of silicone. The flap with the screen protector is light gray and can be folded back to serve as a stand for the tablet. However, the incline is a bit too shallow for our liking. The company handles it similarly with the Blackview Tab 11 (test report) . That’s practical, because you don’t have to buy a stand for a tablet (guide) yourself. Wired in-ear headphones are also included.

The back of our test device shines in silver. The case is made of metal and leaves a noble and high-quality impression. The workmanship is impeccable and there are no excessive gaps or wobbly buttons. The edges of the case on the back are slightly rounded and not as angular as on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (test report) .

The camera element on the back protrudes noticeably in a square element. Overall, the Tab 10 looks a bit bulky. On the one hand, this is due to the high weight of 523 g and the thick case. The dimensions are 243 mm x 162 mm x 8.4 mm, which roughly corresponds to the Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (review) .

The display with IPS panel has a resolution of 16:9 with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). The diagonal is 10.1 inches. This ensures a pixel density of 224 ppi. That’s not excessive, but since you usually don’t hold a tablet as close to your face as you would a smartphone, the pixels shouldn’t be too noticeable. You won’t find higher resolutions beyond 2K in this price range anyway.

The display delivers a more than decent picture quality. Colors could be a touch stronger and the contrasts are not always pronounced enough. With the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (test report) , the Tab 10 can easily keep up with the display. The viewing angle stability is given from almost all perspectives.

The maximum brightness is 325 cd/m². That’s not a lot, but it’s also not untypical for this price range. When used outdoors, the readability of the display in sunlight is limited. Texts are usually still sufficiently legible, but videos appear too dark. The Tab 10 clearly belongs in the living room or bedroom, less in the park – despite LTE. Striking: There is no automatic brightness adjustment, as is actually standard on smartphones and tablets. You always have to adjust the brightness manually.

Widevine Level 1 certification is missing. The Tab 10 only offers Widevine Level 3. This means that Netflix or Disney Plus will only display its content in low SD quality at 480p, even if the display itself is Full HD. The successor Blackview Tab 11 (test report) , on the other hand, already has the certificate for Widevine Level 1, which is important for streaming. We explain more on the subject in the guide Netflix & Co.: The best tablets and Chromebooks for streaming

The main lens with LED flash has a resolution of 13 megapixels. The front lens has a resolution of 8 megapixels. In terms of megapixel count, the Tab 10 offers more than the Samsung or Lenovo competitors in this price range.

The main camera takes decent pictures in daylight. Colors, sharpness and contrasts could be a little better. But in everyday life we don’t believe that this camera is often used with a tablet anyway. Selfies are satisfactory and sharp enough. However, videos are only possible with both lenses at 720p.

A Mediatek MT8768 is used as the CPU in the Blackview Tab 10. The octa-core processor can be classified as a simple entry-level model and is showing its age. You shouldn’t expect maximum performance from the eight Cortex-A53 cores and the PowerVR-GE8320 GPU. This is also confirmed by our benchmark Work 3.0 from PCmark, in which the Tab 10 achieves around 4200 points on average. That’s really little, even the inexpensive and also leisurely Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (test report) achieves 5500 points here.

Graphics performance doesn’t look much better. The “Wild Life” benchmark from 3Dmark doesn’t even run with the chipset. Alternatively, the “Slingshot Extreme” test is available, in which the Tab 10 achieves around 400 points. The performance is sufficient for simple applications and casual games – but nothing more. Users also have to be patient in everyday use because there are longer waiting times when loading applications or websites. The equipment with 4 GB of RAM, which is otherwise decent for the price, doesn’t help much either.

The memory is 64 GB, which can also be expanded using a micro SD card. This then occupies one of the two free slots for nano SIM cards. The Tab 10 surfs mobile with LTE. At home, it can access Wifi-5 at most. But that’s not unusual for the price category. Bluetooth 5.0 is available for wireless external devices. The tablet uses GPS for location. It is not surprising that there is no fingerprint sensor here. However, the front camera offers face recognition using 2D technology. However, this is less secure against attempts to deceive, which is why we rather suggest choosing a PIN.

The stereo speakers offer a clear sound. However, the trebles are overemphasized, which leads to a tinny and shrill sound at higher volumes. They are therefore hardly suitable for listening to music, but sufficient for videos or games. There is a 3.5 mm jack input and a USB-C slot (USB 2.0) as connection options.

The operating system is Android 11, which leaves Blackview almost unchanged. Apart from a few games and tools, the manufacturer spares users with bloatware. However, the security patch is extremely outdated. This is from August – but in 2021. There will also no longer be an update to Android 12. What about further security patches is difficult to answer. When it comes to support, buyers should generally face challenges, because there is no way around shipping to China for repairs.

The battery offers a solid capacity of 7480 mAh, putting it on par with devices from the competition. But the battery life is less nice. We only achieve around 6.5 hours in simulated operation in PCmark’s battery test. That’s pretty modest. Other tablets in this price range manage between 8 and 10 hours.

The power supply offers 18 watts. The tablet is fully charged in just under 4 hours. There is no wireless charging.

The Blackview Tab 10 is available from around 198 euros . The colors gray, silver and gold are available.
