The European Union Digital Markets Act (DMA) is affecting the technology giants operating on the continent. Lately, companies like Google or Apple have been forced to announce changes that will affect users living in member countries of the organization, among which is Spain, and one of them will facilitate migration from iOS to Android.

Like all Big Tech, the bitten apple brand has had to detail in a report how it will comply with the new EU regulation. In the document, it explains that its engineers are working on «easy to use solutions to transfer data from an iPhone to a non-Apple phone.

The transfer from iOS to Android in detail

Although Apple initially did not agree to the DMA, they will have to comply with it if they want to continue operating in territories protected by EU regulations. For this reason, its developers have been thinking about how to adapt to the new changes and the most interesting one will make it easier for Internet users to transfer their data from an iPhone to an Android phone (or another mobile operating system).

Currently, there are ways to transfer photos from iCloud to Google Photos or data from some apps from Tim Cook’s company, such as Notes, Calendar, Contacts, Maps, Wallet, Mail and Safari Bookmarks, among other things. However, Apple promises “easier” solutions in order to comply with the new European law.

When will the migration from iOS to Android arrive?

While Apple has already announced that they are working on such “easy solutions,” you are They will take longer to arrive. The American firm estimates that user data portability tools for App Store accounts will be available by fall 2025.

Before migration to a non-Apple mobile becomes easier, they hope to release a browser-switching solution to export and import relevant files and other data outside of Safari. Specifically, this other novelty is estimated to arrive at the end of 2024 or the beginning of next year.

How to migrate from iPhone to Android now?

  • Download Google Drive from the iPhone App Store and sign in to your Gmail account.
  • Open the application menu by sliding to the right and go to ‘Settings’.
