Apple TV 4K 2022, little surprise in the CPU of the A15 Bionic

Apparently the new one Apple TV 4K it is equipped with a chip Apple A15 Bionic limited to just 5 CPU coresinstead of the traditional 6: the colleagues of FlatpanelsHD, in their review of the new generation Apple set-top box presented just a few weeks ago. It’s the same TV app that confirms this, the source says; which also specifies that the GPU is the one with only four cores, although there is a version of the chip with a 5-core GPU. In short: it is the least powerful implementation of A15 ever, we could say; but after all it can be argued that for a smart TV platform it is more than enough.

Indeed, despite the choked chip and a completely passive heat dissipation system, the new Apple TV was about 40% faster than the previous model equipped with the Apple A12 Bionic, and at the same time the cases of thermal throttling are lower. Indeed, the device manages to beat previous generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles with agility in various situations, and only the PS5 still has a clear superiority in multi-core operations.

So is Apple TV about to become a new star in the world of living room video games? Not really, but reviewers note that at least on paper it has the potential to handle pretty much any PlayStation 4 or Xbox One title. And anyone who has played games like The Witcher 3, God of War or Red Dead Redemption 2 will know that the graphics quality can be anything but disappointing.

Recall that the new Apple TV has been available for a few days both on the Apple website and at the most important electronic retailers, online and physical. The big news finally includes the switch to USB-C for remote control. The price starts from 169 € for the variant with 64 GB of storage and Wi-Fi connectivity only and goes up to 189 € for the 128 GB one and Ethernet port.
