Apple launched yesterday, Monday (10), new updates with important security fixes for those older Macs, iPads and iPhones that cannot be updated to iOS 16, iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura.
The new software versions for these older devices are iOS 15.7.5, macOS 11.7.6 and macOS 12.6.5. Apple highlighted that new updates are extremely important for users who do not use the latest systems.
As MacRumors pointed out, fixes for vulnerabilities have already been actively exploited, and software updates mainly cover two loopholes, both known to Apple to have been used by cyber criminals.
The first is the IOSurfaceAccelerator vulnerability, which could allow an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple has addressed the out-of-bounds write issue with improved input validation.
In turn, the WebKit vulnerability could allow maliciously crafted web content to execute code. Apple has fixed this issue with improved memory management. Therefore, it is important to update.
‌‌iOS 15.7.5 can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads from Settings > General > Software Update. Updates for macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey are available in System Preferences > General > Software Update.
