Rumors released this week suggest that Apple may resume development of its AirPower wireless charging base for phones, headphones and watches. Apparently, the project was suspended due to problems with thermal dissipation causing the device to overheat above normal during use.
Despite taking its efforts from AirPower, the company launched the MagSafe device for users, allowing users to charge compatible devices through induction, but with a restriction: only one charge at a time. Faced with this limitation, the discontinued base will be an advance by supporting up to three devices simultaneously.
The manufacturer has not committed to confirming or denying the rumors about the possible development of the device, however, informants suggest that AirPower is in the future schedule of the Cupertino giant. While this does not happen, Tesla is expected to enter the race by announcing a similar device, the Wireless Charging Platform.
“After much effort, we came to the conclusion that AirPower could not meet our high standards and we canceled the project. We apologize to customers who were looking forward to the market launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and we are committed to move in that direction,” said the former head of Apple’s hardware engineering.
