O Google released the Beta version 2.1 of Android 14 this week to fix some bugs present in the operating system. However, looks that the update caused some damage to an important feature on smartphones in the Pixel lineup.

According to reports from several users, the cameras of the Google Pixel models were negatively affected after installing the new test version of Android 14. Owners of the devices are talking about crashes and instabilities when taking a photo.

“I spent about 5 minutes trying to capture a photo as it was crashing, freezing, not saving the photo. Everything else in the beta seems to be working fine, but I use my camera a lot so this is very detrimental to my day-to-day use”, reported Redditor Brent_Fournier69.

Another Reddit user said that the update to the camera app Pixel 7 Pro caused the problem. He said: “It worked fine for me yesterday, but there was an app update for the camera. Today it freezes when trying to take pictures.”

Another user pointed out that the issue can be fixed by force stopping the app and clearing the cache twice. To do this, just go to Settings > Apps > See All Apps and scroll down to the Camera app.

After that, the user is taken to an app information page. In the bar under the Camera app icon, there are three options: Open, Disable, and Force stop. Just choose Force stop. On the same page, just tap Storage & Cache, then Clear Cache.

Google has not commented on this flaw, but an official fix should be released soon.

Cloned apps can be hidden from work profile in Android 14 Beta 2

A new feature seen in the beta version of Android 14 can be very interesting for those users who use the system both for personal matters and to manage the corporate profile.

First, it is necessary to remember that, among the first visualizations of the system, the cloning of apps was disclosed. In February, Android expert Mishaal Rahman offered a glimpse into Google’s implementation of app cloning for Pixels. Now, Rahman has shown an update to the feature, with a new option that allows users to hide cloned apps from your work profile.

Rahman says the feature is enabled with the ENABLE_APP_CLONING_CHANGES_IN_LAUNCHER flag. Thus, it will make it possible to use a secondary login for an account only for your personal profile.

The main complaint of the February update, namely the inability to differentiate between default app icons and cloned app icons on your personal profile home screen, is still present. This is despite the App Cloning Settings page highlighting a badge for cloned apps, but should be resolved in upcoming updates.

When widely available, app cloning should be accessible in Settings > Apps > Cloned Apps. Google creates a “cloned user profile” when an app is cloned, and users are required to set up their password and other information when they access the cloned app for the first time.

Google’s next major software release could also include a number of other changes, such as a significantly improved screen recording experience and separate ringtone and notification alert sliders. The recent Android 14 Beta 2 release also includes a lot of bug fixes with some developer oriented updates scattered around.
